About us

Established in 1965, Qatar's first radio station, Grand Mosque Radio, laid the foundation for Qatar Radio's official inception on June 25, 1968. Initially broadcasting for five hours in Arabic, Qatar Radio gradually expanded its airtime, reaching around-the-clock broadcasting in 2002. Notably, it launched an English-language program in 1971, later expanding to 19 hours by 2004, aimed at both local and international audiences. In 1980, Urdu-language broadcasts commenced, extending to three hours by 1989. A French-language service was introduced in 1985, offering three hours of programming daily, a rarity in the region. In 1992, Qatar Radio introduced "The Holy Quran" radio, focusing on religious teachings and contemporary issues, garnering widespread acclaim.
